Water Leak Under Driveway in Broussard, La

We recently were called out to Broussard, La to help a client with a water leak under her cement driveway.

The leak was between her water meter and shut off valve for her house - both located in the cement driveway on Claypso Street.

We used a grinder to score deep cuts in a small section of the cement and then broke up the concrete. We removed the mud below the concrete and exposed the leak.

A pinhole leak sprung up in the plastic pipe between the water meter and house shut off valve. Plumbers call this plastic pipe the “whip.”

Who knows what caused the pinhole leak to occur - possibly a piece of acidic cement or sand that just ate a hole through the plastic pipe after 35-40 years.

We removed the section of the whip that was leaking and installed PEX pipe in the form of a swing joint. We turned the water back on to test for leaks and found none.

Then we put mud and new sand back in the hole and installed a new cement patch.

Our client was super happy because she doesn’t have to worry about a high water bill anymore from the leak.
