Today we had a client who had water dripping out of her tub spout and the hot side water handle would not turn the water off. Normally a plumber would be able to replace the washer on the stem for the hot side handle. But in this case, the seat inside the valve body – a brass fitting – was broken, which wouldn’t allow the washer to seat properly on the brass fitting and hold the water back tight.
And making matters worse the seat was so worn and corroded. It would not unscrew out of the valve body. We only had one option, and it was to replace the tub/shower valve body inside the wall.
We ended up replacing the old and now discontinued, Kohler tub, shower valve body with a new Gerber valve body. The unit came with new tub handles and tub, spout and showerhead. Now the client doesn’t have any more drips coming out of the tub spout.
