How to Shut-Off the Water to a Toilet, Sink, or Water Heater

How to Shut-Off the Water to a Toilet, Sink, or Water Heater

The shut-off valve for the toilet is on the wall behind or besides the toilet. Turn the handle clockwise until it stops.

The sink has two shut-off valves, located under the sink. One for each the hot and cold side. Turn both valves clockwise to stop the water flow.

The cold water shut-off valve is on the pipe entering the top of the water heater. Turn the valve clockwise (or move the lever perpendicular to the pipe if it's a quarter-turn valve).

If a valve is stuck, leaking, or won't completely shut off the water, don't force it. Doing so can cause the valve to break and create bigger problems.

Give us a call if you are having problems with your shut-off valves.
