Backflow Re-certification Training Class
Today, the instructor is the student.
Required backflow re-certification - every 3 years. Backflows are those big mechanical looking devices in front of commercial buildings and often residential homes. They are often covered with green insulation bags or are inside metal boxes. They are fancy check valves that keep contaminants and other hazardous materials out of the public water system.
Not every plumber is a certified backflow tester, repairer and installer - i.e. a Water Supply Protection Specialist. Why? Because it’s not easy.
Have to test 4 different backflow devices from memory, each with 7-12 or more steps, and with 2 of them set to malfunction on purpose (don’t know which 2 devices or how they will malfunction), and complete the test procedures accurately with the correct test results. One single mistake, and I fail the entire hands-on exam.
Did I mention there’s also a 3-hour, 80-question written exam that I must pass?
All of this to be competent and qualified to keep our public water safe.
